Ministries

In addition to worship, there are several opportunities for service within the parish through Worship, Word, Community, Service, Leadership, Stewardship and Evangelization.  The ministries described below show the different ways in which you can become more involved in the life of Assumption.  We need your time and your talents!  If you have any questions about a particular area of service, please do not hesitate to contact Father King or Gary Cushing.

Worship

Ministers of Holy Communion:  Proclaim the presence of Christ by helping with the distribution of Holy Communion at daily and Sunday Masses.  They also bring Holy Communion to the homebound of the Parish.  This ministry is open to anyone 16 years of age or older.

Altar Servers:  Assist the Priest at Mass and other liturgical functions.  This ministry is open to all age 12 and older (adults too!) who are willing to make a commitment to serve on a regular basis.

Usher:  Greet members of the gathered assembly and provide a welcoming environment for Sunday liturgies.  They assist people in finding seats, take up the Sunday offering and invite parishioners to participate in the Offertory procession.  This ministry is open to all.

Lectors Proclaim the Word of God to the gathered assembly during the celebration of Mass or for other liturgical functions.

Choir Member Serve the Lord through their musical abilities.  The Choir has regular practice times and sings at one of the Sunday Masses each week.

Word

Catechists:   Teach children the Catholic Faith and Christian values.  The Director of Religious Education teams closely with the catechist and assists with any needs that may arise.  Each catechist has a substitute to “fall back” on if she is unable to be present.  Catechists are chosen by their personal qualifications, interest and commitment to the program

Volunteer Opportunities

Assumption Parish offers many ways to get involved. Here are just a few of the ongoing activities in the Parish. Join in and meet your neighbors.

Hospitality Sunday - From September through May, each week parishioners get together for an informal brunch after the 10:00 A.M. Mass on Sunday. Volunteers are needed to help greet new parishioners, organize the weekly events and set up.

Development Committee - This ongoing committee focuses on fundraising, advertising and public relations activities for the Parish.

Pastoral Council - Assumption's Pastoral Council serves as an advisory Board to the Pastor, offering advice and counsel on many different issues. In essence, they are the representatives of the parish and serve as their voice. Members are selected by the Pastor and current Council members and make a three-year commitment.
