ULLR 2024 SPRING FLING
May 17, 2024, was a beautiful day. 53 ULLRs gathered at the Chanhassen American Legion for the club's annual spring party. We no longer have awards to bestow upon some of our members, however, the party was enjoyed thoroughly. Members visited with old and new friends during happy hour. Next was the buffet with roast beef and turkey and all the fixings. We finished our meal with cake and coffee. The highlight of the night was our entertainment. St Croix Crossing delighted us with their singing and entertaining. The group is a senior barbershop quartet. Jared Hoke, one of our members, sings bass, along side his fellow members. The group is the 2010 Land O’ Lakes District champions. In addition to this honor, they have 5 bronze and silver medals at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Senior Quartet Championships. Their highest award is a gold medal for their performance in Costa Mesa, California in January of 2018, at the International Senior Quartet Championships. The group performed for us as if they were performing at the Grand Ole Opry, which was a recent venue for the group. We feel fortunate that our members were able to hear these wonderful singers. Thank you, Jared!

Dear Fellow "ULLR-ites",
I discovered ULLR when I was already well into senior citizenhood. I have been happily surprised by the benefits that have showered onto me: batches of new friends, terrific bicycle experiences, interesting activities. What’s not to like?
The same has been true for me with barbershop singing. I have sung all my life, but mostly Mozart/Beethoven/etc. I was well into my 60’s when I decided to join a barbershop chorus, and even later when I formed a barbershop quartet. Like with ULLR, the benefits have repaid me a hundredfold, so I was excited to join with my quartet and sing for you at the ULLR Spring Fling.  All the best to everyone in the coming year.

Jared Hoke (that’s me second from the right in the photo's)
