ULLRS HIKE AT NERSTRAND
Four ULLRs and a guest came to Nerstrand Big Woods State Park on a warm
October day to walk and hike in peaceful dappled light from the tree
canopies, The weather was perfect with sunny blue skies. The leaf
colors were glorious.
ULLRs Andrew H. and Tee M. brought their friend Nancy K. as a guest. We hope she will join our club.
Since this was a week that kids weren’t in school, the parking lot was
filled to capacity causing the Park to open an overflow area. We saw
lots of families on the trail teaching their children about nature, and
we saw many excited leashed happy dogs.
Remembering the inches of rain that fell the previous week, we expected
to see lots of water at Hidden Falls, but we had to settle for only a
trickle. Nevertheless, the setting for the waterfall is still a
favorite view and a good photo op.
As we walked along the trails, we enjoyed the sounds of crunchy leaves,
and we had fun comparing the size of fallen leaves. Some yellow maple
leaves were nearly 10 inches across! We marveled at groupings of tree
trunks and how standing trees support those that have fallen.
Following our hike, we enjoyed conversation and our lunches among the
giant trees at the picnic area. A few of us brought treats to share for
dessert! Yum!
We look forward to the remaining fall ULLR hikes!
