ULLRS ENJOY LAST FALL HIKE OF THE SEASON Did
you know your legs have 13 muscles? Seven ULLRs felt each of
those muscles working hard when they followed hike leader Nancy S up
and down hills for about 3 miles at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve in
Savage on Monday, November 15. The hike flyer included a warning
about hills and included a recommendation for hikers to bring hiking
sticks, so our ULLR hikers couldn’t claim they weren’t informed. It
was a cool cloudy fall day, and the hike progressed with rest stops
part-way up and at the top of the hills. The Burnsville and
Savage areas received a dusting of snow a few days prior to the
hike. The remaining snow provided a nice bright white contrast
against dark tree trunks and branches, fallen leaves, and green
buckthorn leaves. Even though the outside temperature was barely
above freezing, everyone agreed it was actually a nice day to be
outside with our ULLR friends. Hiker Bill B
told the group about another meadow section of the Park with additional
hiking trails. Maybe we will do that area next year. After
the hike four ULLRs enjoyed lunch seated at a table near a big
fireplace at the Porter Creek Hardwood Grill in Burnsville. The
warmth of the fire felt nice and cozy. This
was the last scheduled fall ULLR hike. Where will we hike next
year? You can determine that by suggesting places and
volunteering to lead a hike. Plan now to do that! |
