CROSY FARM HIKE COMPLETD BEFORE RAIN
The
morning of May 14, Linda H, Karen H, and Nancy S looked at weather
radar and decided the scheduled hike at Crosby Farm Park could probably
be completed before it rained. When they got to the Park, there
were peeks of sun, and sprinkles of rain held off until after the hike
and lunch.
The three ULLRs spent an
enjoyable hour and 45 minutes walking along the Mississippi and around
a lake for about 4 miles. The scenery in this Park is
beautiful. It seems like one is walking through a tunnel of
huge trees. It is interesting to see how trees have broken and
fallen along the trails and along the sandy beach.
But,
trees also fall across the trail! (See photo) When we
saw a biker approach the fallen tree, we suggested he should simply
jump the tree with his bike, and we assured him we had phones so we
would call 911 if he crashed! We were such a helpful
group! He laughed, declined our offer, and lifted his bike
over the tree.
A rickety boardwalk
separated two lakes, and when we walked onto a fishing pier, we
wondered what kinds of fish one would catch in those waters.
Later we admired a tree with white blossoms, but no one knew what the
tree was. The white blossoms had very little fragrance.
Linda took a leaf, and Nancy took a photo of the blossoms. During
lunch Linda searched through her botanical book to identify the
tree. Karen found photos of a the Spring Snow Crabapple on her
phone, and all agreed that was likely the tree.
The Highland Café & Bakery was the destination for lunch with many tempting treats to take home for dessert!
