ULLRS HIKE AT TERRACE OAKS After
two cancellations due to rain and mud, hike host Nancy S kept her
fingers crossed for a nice day with good trail conditions on the third
try. It worked! Ten ULLRs
came to hike at Terrace Oaks West Park on May 10th. The
temperature was cool with some wind, but lots of leaves on the trees
protected the group from the wind. Poles were useful as the
trails included several short but steep hills. Nancy S cautioned
hikers about loose gravel on hills where walking on the trail sides was
safer. ULLRs had hiked at Terrace
Oaks in 2019 when the Park was in the process of early restoration of
about 26 acres to oak savannah. At that time, we saw areas where
trees were marked with pink ribbons that said Do Not Cut.
Everything else in those areas was cleared, and there were lots of
piles of debris. This year in 2021, we saw the previously
pink-ribboned trees standing tall in sunlight surrounded by grasses.
Following the hike, our ULLRs were grateful to sit down for a while to have lunch at Jensen’s Café in Burnsville. |
