On
Friday October 16th, with the forecast of a few snow flurries ending by
11 am, 13 Ullrs showed up to hike the Bunker Hills Regional Park where
we experienced all the elements of a late Fall day - cool temps, a
strong wind with first sleet pellets then “snow”, and finally
warm sunshine.
We started the hike in
chilly, cloudy weather observing the rust/brown colors of remaining
tree leaves. Our first adventure was the bouncing or moving
boardwalk where Karen C kept jumping to make the movement worse.
Shortly after that section, the wind and sleet arrived. When it
turned to a heavy, wet snowfall we quickly headed to the Veterans
Memorial Shelter for our earlier than planned lunch break. After
15 minutes or so the snow stopped and we continued on. Enough
snow accumulated to allow Nancy S to make and toss a snowball at
someone (think Bruce W). Then the sun came out so we finished in
warmth, walking past the construction project of a remodel of the Beach
area (building a new wave pool). We also walked through the
Campgrounds/Stable area and noted a few RV campers remaining.
Also,
Barb K was excited to find a pine tree limb with cones, planning to
create an outdoor decoration. So, after our prelude to
winter it turned out to be an enjoyable day for a hike in the great
outdoors.
