622 Lezley Johansen, Team Captain

|
Milla
contacted us two years ago about joining our team, but at that time we
were full. This year when Torch decided to retire we contacted
Milla and she was happy to join us. As you can tell she knows how
to fit right in with the team.
|
|
Jim
looks tired in this picture and he has a right to be. He skied 2
hours of practice gates in the morning and then came back and had to do
a double race in the afternoon. Buck Hill had been closed because
of the weather, so we did a double race. We did one race, and
then there was a break of about 45 minutes while the course was
regroomed and reset. Then we raced again on the new course.
|
|
Besides
taking care of all the captain responsibilities, Lezley’s project for
the year was to introduce everybody to Bloody Marys rather than
beer. She’s our number one cheerleader!

623 Lee Erickson

|
|
624 Kathy Lucas

|
|
625 Katie Connolly

|
Lee has the longest race history of anybody in ski challenge, going back to when ULLRs had a team on Thursday night.
| | Besides
Wednesday racing, Kathy donates her time on Friday morning to work with
persons with disabilities at Highland Hills. Kathy works
hard to keep improving her times, and every race she’s a tiny bit
better than the week before.
| | This
is Katie modeling our new team shirt and doing a perfect job of
it. The red on her cheeks is honestly earned from the bitter cold
outside the day we took pictures.
|
| |
626 Mary Hall

| | 627 Kim Taraschi

| | 628 John Kasprick

|
You
can always see a look of tremendous determination on Mary’s face when
she’s going down the hill. When Mary’s daughter left for college
she handed her GS suit down to mom. That started something; now
every lady on the team has a GS suit.
| | She’s
a lady with a lot of initiative and team spirit. When Brian
showed the team tee shirts we were making for the Sunday team she got
busy, hunted up a different picture of ULLR, and had shirts made for us.
| | John’s
the fastest racer on our team. You can see from the red on his
face that it was not a warm Wednesday on Buck Hill. We think he’s
falling victim to Lezley, and enjoying a Bloody Mary rather than the
traditional beer.

629 Mick Ganley

| |
| | Torch Dorn

|
| You
can see from the look of exhaustion on his face that he had just
finished the double race. Mick and his wife Kate spent the first
part of the season skiing with their grandchildren out west and missed
the first few races, but when he came back he was a better racer than
ever. | |
| | Torch
is one of our most dedicated racers, and has a history through many
years of racing. The senior member of our team and the league at
82, Torch decided to retire this year and concentrate on working with
the disabled on Friday, as well as skiing out west with his family.
