The
rain stopped, and the clouds parted to reveal the “Falling Leaves Full
Moon”, a beautiful sight, at the Richardson Nature Center on Sunday,
October 13. While we waited for the group to assemble, fourteen
Ullrs gathered and were entertained by a guitar-playing, Three Rivers
Volunteer and singer. We even joined in on some familiar tunes,
“Shine on Harvest Moon”, “Hey, Diddle, Diddle,” and his original
“Summer’s Gone to Fall.”
After a
short science lesson on “why leaves change color,” we walked out into
the dark to “listen for animal sounds, even earthworms.” We also
had a lesson on planets. Jupiter and Saturn were out shining, but
not twinkling as do stars. We also found the Big Dipper and
Polaris. Our Naturalist had several interesting constellation
stories to tell. A beautiful night for a Walk In the Woods!
