67 Ullrs, including some returned “snowbirds”, attended the 69th Annual Awards banquet held again at the Chanhassen American Legion.  This venue is very accommodating in price and service.  Co-chairs Jan Swanberg and Janet Farber planned this event.  Diane Erlandson took reservations and made the name tags.  Our official photographer was Alan Moore, and Bill Kansas brought his keyboard, providing beautiful background music during the happy hour.

All enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner of salad & roll, chicken Marsala, pork tenderloin, roasted red potatoes & green beans in almond butter sauce, followed by cake and coffee.  The table centerpiece was a slim vase with a peach colored rose and baby’s breath, and was offered to the person at each table who was a member of ULLR the longest.

Ken Marini, second time Master of Ceremonies, provided a fun and entertaining dialogue between the various award presentations.  This year, his theme was based on music & songs going back to 1959, particularly those with a person’s name.  A few of the songs were: Oh Carol for all the Carols in ULLR, Barbara Ann – pointing to Barb K, Teachers Pet (for all former teachers), Restless for all the bikers, and Yellow Submarine – referring to the yellow Jaguar of John S.  Ken’s experiences and memories of those by-gone days were quite fun and provided many laughs.

Jan Cady presented the Foundation Board Members and thanked the Club for their generosity.  The May 2nd Bingo & Silent Auction meeting netted the largest income from a single event, thanks in part to a $1,000 donation from the Elan Vital Ski Club which shut down as a Club.

Brian Johnson, Racing Chair had two racing awards for Torch Dorn and John Kasprick (not in attendance due to illness).

Recipients of last year’s OLE awards recognized 4 Ullrs for their contributions this past year to the club. The new OLE award winners:
Carol Bush - “I’ll Do It”
Joan Roe - “Leader of the Pack”
Barb Kolbe  - “Most Enduring”
Jan Butler - “At Your Service”

Mary Ellen Goriesky, last year’s ULLR of the Year, presented this year’s ULLR of the Year Award to Mary Jane Hochstein.

Then Mary Jane Hochstein and Joan Roe announced two “Distinguished Service Awards” to Margie Deutsch and Joe Coursolle.  Joan presented the Award along with an engraved clock to Margie Deutsch in recognition of the dedication and great job Margie has done being the NULLR editor/producer since 2011.  Prior to that Margie and her husband Manfred coordinated Folding Parties for getting the NULLR mailed to the ULLR membership.  And, Margie yearly hosts one of the summer picnics with authentic German style food of brats, homemade potato salad & sauerkraut.

Mary Jane then presented the Distinguished Service Award and clock to Joe for his dedication with being Web Master of the ULLR Website since 2003.  He enjoys doing this job for the club, and has spent many hours over the years maintaining the Website plus posting all Club photos, announcements, and event stories etc.  He does this on an unpaid volunteer basis.

Joan Roe then presented the retiring Board and welcomed the new Board, several of whom are remaining to serve a second term.
At 8 PM the dance floor filled with Ullr’s dancing to the music and singing of the Kerry Johnson Quartet.

Again, a big “Thank You” to those who helped with this event:  Janet F, Diane E, Alan M, Bill K and to MC Ken Marini.  Also, thanks to everyone who attended.  Your presence contributed greatly to a fun evening despite the Flower Moon of May not being visible that rainy evening.
