April
showers are supposed to bring May flowers. That is what we
learned as children; however, the six ULLRs who came to Bunker Hills
Regional Park on May 1 did not see any May flowers or any sun! At
least it didn’t rain!
According to Bruce W’s
mapping app, we walked 5.77 miles. That sounds like a lot, but
the trail Nancy S chose for us was paved all the way with few
hills. This Park has a long floating boardwalk that makes one
feel a bit dizzy and wobbly while crossing it. We made it across
successfully!
The Park had done lots of
controlled burning, so with few leaves showing and the burned areas,
visibility was great. We were surprised to see a pine tree
decorated with Christmas ornaments. One thick stand of trees
provided a good photo op for Jerry S and Bruce W. We passed a
riding stable, but we didn’t see any horses on the trails.
We
walked through a huge water park to see the pools and water
slides. Bruce W boldly climbed onto the bottom of one of the
slides. (It is a good thing no park person saw him do
this!) The ladies in the group were more careful for their photo.
After the walk, lunch was enjoyed at Kendall’s Tavern & Chophouse at the Bunker Hills Golf Club.
