681 Jim Habeck

|
|
682 Lezley Johansen Team Captain (and leader of all skullduggery)

|
Torch
is the senior member of our team and the most senior in the entire
league. Between his volunteer work with the handicapped on
Friday, flying his airplane, and being a Shriner we don’t get a chance
to see much of Torch, but you can guarantee he’ll be there every
Wednesday to race and win another gold medal.
|
|
Nothing
tastes better than a glass of beer after a day on the Hill.
Unless Jim's out West, he's always running the morning practice
Gates. That means he’s had a double dose of all the fierce cold
and miserable conditions we had this year, and he survived.
|
|
Lezley
brings an extra dose of warmth and cheer to our table which was
especially needed this year, when the wind chill was 30 below and
you’re standing in line at the start house without anything to break
the wind. Lezley is the fastest lady on our team.

684 Kathy Lucas

685 Katie Connolly

|
Lee
goes back to racing with our ULLR team in the 1980s, and we’re thankful
he’s racing with our team 30 years later. He costs Brian a lot of
money every year. When he taught Lezley the ULLR cheer so she
could teach both teams, Brian promised ULLR schnapps for
everybody. Between the two teams that’s about five $30.00 bottles
a year.
| | Kathy
worked the entire 2017 season with Buck Hill race instructor Cindy
McDonald and it has really paid off for her this year. She is now
ranked number three in her age group for all the race venues at Buck
Hill.
| | Katie
gained a lot of self-confidence by skiing down the ladies pro race
course in Courtina Italy last year, and has put it to very good use
this year. But every once in a while we see her sneak off
to a secluded area and talk on her cell phone. We suspect she
might be colluding with the pink panther trying to shave another half
second off of her time. Katie is the team's most improved for
this year.

686 Mary Hall

| | 687 Kim Taraschi

| | 688 John Kasprick

|
This
is a very proud moment for Mary - showing her very first gold
medal. Mary lives at the very southern edge of Lakeville (you
need map of Iowa map to find her home) but made the two hour journey to
Wild Mountain to spend a Friday clinic with Anna Levins. When she
was done with the clinic, she raced in the Wild Mountain Friday Ski
Challenge Race and won her first gold medal.
| | Kim,
also known as old frozen foot, actually survived all the brutal cold of
January without a problem. But it was unnerving for us to see her
running around barefoot, thawing her feet out after every race, when
everybody else is clomping along in their big ski boats.
| | John
is the League's most improved this year. He amazed everybody
including himself. He came into the start of the season with a
very low handicap. Not a lot of room to improve when you’re very
good to start with, and wound up being the most improved racer in the
entire league. A real tribute to the intensity and effort he puts
into every run down the hill.

| |
| | 689 Mick Ganley

| |
|
| | Mick
and wife Kate are members of the ski patrol, and Mick missed the first
two races of the season while out West ski patrolling. But, he
came back strong for the last five races and made a good contribution
to our team. No matter what the weather conditions, his time
improved each week.
