Eleven
ULLRs came to see the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular (JOLS) Sunday evening,
October 28, at the Minnesota Zoo, and spectacular it was!
Pumpkins were everywhere: on the ground, on pedestals, in dinosaur
eggs, hanging from trees, in a castle, in a jail, in a pond. About
5,000 hand-carved pumpkins glowed in the dark -- all lit with electric
LED lights. Most were carved similar to what one would try to do
at home, but many were works of art and caused us to stroll the trail
slowly and take many photos. The
pumpkins came from MN, WI, and KY and were a variety of kinds and
sizes. The two largest were 1,600 and 2,000 pounds! The
JOLS theme was “A Walk Through Time.” We saw dinosaurs, the Rome
colosseum, renaissance paintings, the Mona Lisa, Einstein, the Titanic,
9/11, Prince, Kermit the Frog, the Headless Horseman, the landing of
pilgrims, titans of industry, Elvis, MN Zoo animals, Frankenstein, a
group of pumpkins carved for the Vikings-Saints game, Star Trek, and so
many more. Nancy S said the pumpkins will be back next year with a different theme. Ullrs should plan now to see Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular 2019 at the Minnesota Zoo. |
