On
Monday, October 15, ten ULLRs enjoyed a mostly sunny day for a
hike/walk in St Croix Bluffs Regional Park. Other than our hike
leader, no one in the group had been to this Park, so we were all
anxious to get on the trails.
Our
hike began with a steep descent down to the St Croix River where we
chatted with a fisherman and saw many geese also enjoying the
water. Hike leader Nancy S wanted to show the group the big sandy
swim beach; however, it was under water due to recent rain. So,
up we chugged back to the top of the bluffs. The hill was steep
and long, but we stopped along the way at an overlook with an awesome
view of the St Croix.
From the top, we
hiked/walked/strolled on trails that included woods and grassy
plains. The trees were beautiful. We saw maples, pines, and
oak – and some we could not identify. Linda H picked up a very
large leaf and said she would consult her book to determine from what
kind of tree it fell. We stopped often to just enjoy nature!
After
the hike, everyone drove into Hastings for lunch at the
Bierstube. After so many dreary wet cloudy days in October, a
hike with sunshine was the best cure for weather doldrums, and everyone
agreed it was fun to explore a new place to hike.
