Joan Roe & Nancy Keyes, Co-chairs With Diane Erlandson Over
sixty Ullrs enjoyed being together for the Ullr awards banquet at the
beautifully decorated Chanhassen American Legion, along with some
returned “snowbirds,” with the later date of May 18. Bill
Kansas provided beautiful background music during happy hour, and also
generously donated a variety of crystal pieces as table favors, which
were placed at each place (yes, trades were allowed!). Nancy
Keyes’ beautiful vases of red roses and baby’s breath, dressed up with
tulle bows were lovely centerpieces. All enjoyed an delicious
buffet dinner of salad, roast beef, chicken Marsala, roasted baby reds,
and green beans in almond butter sauce, followed by cake and coffee. Ken
Marini, first-time Master of Ceremonies, spoke with ease as he walked
and talked around tables telling how much he appreciates the Ullr
Club. “How can you find a group of people like this?!
There’s skiers, hikers, bikers, people who actively enjoy the
outdoors, but also are interesting, accomplished in their professional
lives, have full personal lives, and talented and giving in many
ways. There’s so many nurses here, and you know how much I love
nurses!” (Sharon being one!). His sense of humor had us all
laughing! Ken named many, giving a deeply personal, heart-felt
feeling to his presentation, which went on throughout the lively, fun
evening! Brian
Johnson, praised the two Ullr racing teams, the Sunday “Foggy Goggles”
and the Wednesday “Raiders of the Lost Fjord”, whose member John
Kasprick was awarded by Brian as the fastest racer on the team and the
“Most Improved”. Jan
Cady presented the Foundation Board and thanked the Club for their
generosity and desire to help those in need, which made donations
possible to TCAB (Twin Cities Adaptive Bike), Padraig’s Place (Buck
Hill adaptive ski program), and Hammer Residences. Awards Presentations... Ullr
of the Year Mary Ellen Goriesky! Presented by last year’s
recipient Carol Bush, for her willingness to serve, always with a
smile, for many years. Mary Ellen ran many bike rides and loves
to help make summer picnics a lot of fun for so many Ullrs.
Mary Jane Hochstein presented the retiring Board and
welcomed the new Board, several of whom on both. Then
“The American Flyer Band” filled the dance floor with their lively
music – lots of couples and singles, dancing, twisting and singing
along! They love playing for us because “You have more stamina
than younger people. It’s great!” Our own Bob Gilbertson,
by popular demand, got on the drums, having played many years with
“Riverboat Rmblr”! What
a fun evening! Thank you to all who do so much, which adds life
to the Ullr Club, and is what we’re all about! As Gary Gray said,
“It was a wonderful evening with good food, an excellent band, lots of
laughs, and marvelous company.” And to quote Brian Johnson,
“It’s all good!” |
