Carver Park Hike by Patty Fitzgerald
On
October 28th, 6 ULLRs met at the Carver Park Reserve in Victoria for a
hike. It was cold and cloudy, but we found the wooded terrain to
be out of the wind and very scenic. We managed to hike 4 miles,
around Crosby Lake and over several wetland areas on the moving bridges
made from heavy duty plastic.
We
stopped to see a huge growth on one of the trees and to try our
luck at tying knots. Patty tried to tie Barb K up but the rope
was too short. Nancy S was successful at recreating one
of the knots on the board.
We found a
Chickadee overlook where there were several benches with fake wooden
people sitting on them and dressed in hats and scarves. We
decided it was done so that the birds wouldn't be scared away when
people came near.
We checked out the owl and
hawk that are in cages in the park because they are blind due to
accidents. Then we checked out the Lowry Nature Center which has
many interesting stuffed specimens and some live critters too.
After the hike we went to lunch at The School of the Wise, a new restaurant in Victoria, which everyone said was a great choice.
