| Biking and Potluck, by Gail West Saturday, August 19th, was a gorgeous day and 39 Ullrs gathered at Hal & Gail West’s house to enjoy it to the fullest. Twenty-eight of us started early with either a 22-mile or a 28-mile bike ride in Elm Creek Park Preserve and on the trail to the Coon Rapids Dam, enjoying the scenic, varied path and conquering the occasional hill. We shared the park with 500+ kids participating in a first-ever triathlon event but thankfully managed to stay out of their way. John Stiefel traveled the most miles of anyone, but unfortunately it was mostly by car as he headed back to his bike, flat tire, and Good Samaritan Bill Brechtel. After the ride, we returned to Hal & Gail’s where we were joined by 11 more Ullrs for a delicious pot luck lunch (thank you, everyone). We surprised Nancy Navis with a birthday cake to celebrate her 60th birthday and spent the afternoon enjoying the view of the Mississippi and each other’s company.
