BATTLE CREEK HIKE
After
many days of gray skies and rain, ULLRs were overjoyed to be outside
with blue skies and warm sun at Battle Creek Regional Park on Monday,
May 22. Hike host Nancy S led a group of 7 ULLRs on paved trails
avoiding the very muddy dirt trails; however, near the end of the hike,
the group encountered a “lake” at a low point on the paved trail.
Since no one brought waders or wore rain boots, we walked around that
spot. Along the hike we noticed birds, geese with goslings, and
turtles, plus interesting twisted branches of oak tree canopies.
Following
the 3.5+ mile hike, we enjoyed our menu selections at Keys Café.
Some cleaned their plates, and some carried take-home boxes out of the
restaurant. Nearly everyone planned to stop at the nearby Great
American Ribs Outlet to purchase and take home some of their highly
regarded meat items, but we discovered it was closed on Mondays.
A note to future Battle Creek hike planners – choose a day other than
Monday!
