RICHARD T ANDERSON CONSERVATION AREA HIKE
Monday,
October 10th was a beautiful day and 14 ULLRs enjoyed hiking thru the
Richard T Anderson conservation area in Eden Prairie. This park is 125
acres and consists of 4 miles of hiking trails within a very
geologically diverse setting. Wedged between a suburban neighborhood
and the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge, it has some very steep hills
with trails thru big woods, and amazing views of the Minnesota River.
We began our hike on a trail thru
bottomland forest. Some of the group headed up a steep trail and others
took the longer trail thru the woods, but both groups were greeted with
sweeping views of the Minnesota River Valley while standing in upland
grassland. We then walked thru big woods on a winding trail and
came upon a large muddy spot that we decided not to walk thru. Led by
Ken M we found an alternate way thru the woods, over some downed trees
and made it back to the trail. From there, we found another trail that
headed back up to the ridgeline. With all the recent rain, we
discovered that we had to jump over a small stream but all made it
safely. We climbed up and up and up and finally made it to the
ridgeline. We eventually exited the woods and walked thru rolling
prairie, stopped to look for Indian mounds and wound our way back to
the parking area.
After the hike, 11 of us enjoyed burgers at the Lions Tap.
