Louisville Swamp Hike, By Karen Holmquist

I am pretty sure that we enjoyed the last great day of Autumn walking the Mazomani Trail at the Louisville Swamp hike in Shakopee!  The trail was named after the leader of the Wahapetonwan, a band of the Dakotas whose name means “Dwellers.”

Thirteen ULLRs wandered over hill and dale past the remains of the Ehmiller Farmstead, and along the Louisville Swamp area.  Because the trail was closed by the dam, we followed the trail to one of the huge boulders left behind from the glaciers.  There we turned around back to the parking lot for a 4 mile hike.
We saw many bow hunters stalking deer in the area.  Yikes!!

A delicious lunch was enjoyed by all at Dangerfield’s restaurant in Shakopee.
