The
ULLR biking season started off on May 9th with 20 riders showing up at
The Depot in Hopkins. Patty lead the more casual group (pictured
here), which had quite a harrowing experience on the Cedar Lake
Trail. We headed east on the trail and very quickly we came upon
a group of about 1,000 riders biking west, 2 and 3 abreast. They
came at us in waves of 100 or so and just when we thought they were all
past us, another group would come speeding by us! We never did
find out what organized ride they were on, but it was a bit scary for
our group of 12 riders, who all stayed single file and as far to the
right as we could. It was certainly not what we expected for our
leisurely ride to the lakes. But we survived the swarm and
actually finished our ride about 20 minutes before the faster group,
so, the slower group became the faster group! We were all sure to
let the other group, led by John Stiefel, know how speedy we
were. Several of us went to lunch after the ride at the Big 10
restaurant in Hopkins. We all agreed that we are hoping for lots
of nice weather this summer so that we can get in plenty of miles on
our bikes.
