Pat
Nelson & Bruce Warner led forty skiers from the Mpls. Airport early
Sunday the 22nd to spend the week at Beaver Creek Arrowhead Lodge, and
to ski both Beaver Creek & Vail. We returned on the 28th.
We had excellent conditions
highlighted by 35 degrees and a clear blue sky on Tuesday, and 5” of
new powder to try on Friday. Depending on ability the powder was
welcome, difficult, or WOW. There truly is a difference in the
technique of Midwest “hard pack” and “soft powder”.
Many
lessons were learned & experienced: ski bags can injure you at the
airport, helmets & Bloody Mary’s don’t mix, helmets help keep your
head warm only if the vents are closed, two skiers learned that they
will both turn 80 on the same day in April, and ladies love beards
(not?), to name a few.
The airplanes were
on time, all of the bags arrived as planned, and 28 of us had a great
group dinner on Wednesday evening. The week was closed out with a
traditional “leftovers party” hosted by two condos on Friday
night. Many said “when is the next western ski trip?”
