ULLRS LEARN ABOUT AND TASTE WINES Instead
of being 30 degrees below zero, the weather on Thursday, January 15,
was rather balmy when 30 ULLRs came to Nancy Sand’s home to learn about
and sample wines. Each ULLR brought a bottle of wine and shared
something interesting or unique about the wine. ULLRs learned
about wines from California, Oregon, Missouri, Italy, etc.
More reds were brought than whites, but that is probably because we are
in the winter season. We learned about
blending, spices, food parings, costs, and where to purchase the
wines. And, instead of wine, Judy Burich brought some
non-alcoholic ginger beer - said to have certain medicinal qualities! In
addition to bringing a bottle of wine, each ULLR was also asked to
bring his/her favorite wine glass. We saw simple clear glasses,
painted and decorated glasses, collector glasses, and wine glasses made
from jars! Of course, no ULLR social
event is complete without good food. ULLRs brought appetizers
(lots of cheese and crackers), salads, and desserts. Coffee and
water were also in great supply so we didn’t have to worry when people
headed out on the roads to go back home. Host
Nancy Sand decorated the room with wine-colored table clothes and
wine-themed plates and napkins. Each ULLR was given a decorated
Wine Note sheet on which to write the names of some new wines to buy in
the future. I think 30 ULLRs will be visiting their local wine
store sometime soon!
