ULLRS SUPPORT TOYS FOR TOTS
For
many years ULLRs have donated toys and cash to the Marine Toys for Tots
program. This year, in addition to all the books, games, dolls,
cars, craft sets, and stuffed animals, ULLRs donated $290 in cash at
the ULLR Holiday Ball.
Thanks, too, to the
thirteen ULLRs and two guests who helped at the Toys for Tots warehouse
on December 15. When we first arrived, we didn’t see many toys
and wondered if there was anything for us to do, but the Marines soon
had all of us moving boxes of new toys, breaking down the empty boxes,
and sorting and packing toys for different age groups.
Challenges
included remembering to count the number of toys placed in each box and
arranging toys in a box so that long baseball bats would fit! We
also had fun seeing and handling all the toys.
Because
there were two other groups helping at the warehouse, our work was
completed early and a few of us enjoyed refreshments at Houlihan’s.
Through
actual donations of toys and cash plus working at the Toys for Tots
warehouse, ULLRs once again have brightened the lives of many children
this Christmas.
