ULLRS Visit Ultimate Dinosaurs
With
Gary Gray’s expert tutelage, thirteen ULLRs learned about dinosaurs on
Friday afternoon, June 20th, at the Ultimate Dinosaur exhibit at the
Science Museum of Minnesota.
We
began with the permanent SMM dinosaur exhibit, saw the “Dinosaurs
Alive” movie in the Omnitheater, and then enjoyed the fascinating
special Ultimate Dinosaur exhibit. Gary helped us understand bone
structure, how the shape and position of teeth and claws determined
what they ate, and how to pronounce those long dinosaur names. We
gazed at the skeletons trying to imagine these huge animals living on
our planet millions of years ago.
Dinosaurs
were a unique type of animal that lived during the Mesozoic Era from
245 to 65 million years ago, were vertebrates, were terrestrial
(meaning they lived on land), walked with their legs positioned
directly under their bodies like birds and most mammals, and are now
extinct, but their descendants are alive today as birds.
Following our Museum visit, we enjoyed dinner and lively conversations at The Liffey — inside, not outside in the hot sun!
