17
exuberant ULLRs carpooled to Granite Peak in Wausau, Wisconsin on
Tuesday February 18th for downhill skiing, snow shoeing and
cross-country skiing. Several did so and had an outstanding time.
Wednesday was a perfect day with a beautiful sunny sky,
little wind with all groomed runs. It was a fabulous day for all
of the outdoor events. One of the chair lifts had trouble and
there were about 8 of us on that lift for at least 20 minutes. It
then started and we all got off okay. They did close it down for
further attention. Mary Ellen Gable fell injuring an ankle, but
is doing okay. Ken Marini took a tumble, was completely covered
in snow, looking like a snowman, but thankfully was not hurt.
Our
group was allowed to use the large breakfast room for our pizza party
Tuesday evening, where we all conveyed for a nice evening. It was
then we learned of an impending blizzard with 8-10 or more inches of
snow coming in our drive home path. We all decided not to put
ourselves in harms way, and left after skiing Wednesday evening.
Looking out the window as I am writing this Thursday evening, I know we
made the correct decision. A great time was had by all and
looking forward to skiing Granite Peak again.
