Lanesboro
MN, the B&B capital of Minnesota and the quirky crossroads of the
arts and outdoors, was once again our destination for a couple of days
of biking and socializing. There are so many things to do in
Lanesboro that we find it difficult to decide how to spend our time.
Did you know that Lanesboro was originally established as a
tourist destination for wealthy travels back in 1868? It was on
the railroad line and was a beautiful area to relax along the Root
River. Today it is still thriving as a tourist town and first
rate artist community. 32 ULLRs arrived on
a Sunday afternoon and headed out for a bike ride or play before we
started socializing. We stayed at the Green Gables Inn, which has
a great courtyard that we utilize for our social hour and breakfast
area. Sunday night we enjoyed dinner in Preston at The Branding
Iron. What a beautiful drive it was to Preston, along a ridgeline
overlooking lush valleys of farm fields with hawks soaring above us. Monday
groups of bikers headed to different destinations. A highlight
for 7 bikers was making it all the way up the hills into Harmony, a
first for several of them, and adding 47 miles to their yearly
totals. Some bikers were proud of the mileage logged, a personal
best for Manfred D. Others biked east all the way to Houston,
over 60 miles, and many of the group were sure to stop by the Aroma Pie
Shop in Whalen for the excellent homemade pie. At social hour on
Monday we heard about all of the interesting art shops and history
museums that some of the group enjoyed that day. Monday night
most of us headed to the Commonweal Theatre for a production of "Blithe
Spirit". The Commonweal is noted in Southeastern MN for its
excellent productions, and many of us enjoy the evening in the
beautiful facility. Tuesday morning
several of us jumped on our bikes for one last ride before heading
home. The weather was great during our stay and as always, the
group was lively and excited to be enjoying the great outdoors! Patty Fitzgerald |
