ULLRs Help at Project Homeless Connect By Margo Dinneen What
a wonderful team we had serving Project Homeless Connect at the
Minneapolis Convention Center on Monday, May 20th! Ten of us
ULLRs plus one from our church not only volunteered from 8:00 to 4:00
but also attended a required 1-1/2 hour training program at Southdale,
Ridgedale, or Brookdale Library during the week beforehand. We
each had the opportunity to guide our guests so they could accomplish
many needed priorities: resume' writing, access to education,
employment and housing needs; dental, medical, opthamology, and legal
help; birth certificates, Minnesota photo IDs, driver's license
applications; haircuts, etc. Our hearts were touched with big
smiles as their goals were met, one by one! Ten
of us shared a fun happy hour at nearby Porter and Frye's
afterward. A HUGE thank you to each of you who stepped forward to
make our Minneapolis a better place to live! Many
thanks to Margo and Jon for inviting ULLRs to participate in this event
and for helping us have a good day while we were helping our guests. |
