Skiing the Utah Mountains!

With a variety of mountains to ski, fresh snow, sunshine, semi-mild temps, free breakfasts every morning, free après ski every afternoon, comfortable private bus rides, no serious injuries, group dinner at the Olive Garden, and a lot of camaraderie – how could we not have fun!!  22 ULLRs skied Alta the first day, Brighton on day 2,  Alta or Solitude on day 3, Deer Valley or Park City on day 4, and Snowbird on day 5.  Thanks go to Wayne J, Tom R, Bob H, and Joe F for driving vans to either Deer Valley or Park City on our extra day of skiing.  We also want to thank Gail and Hal W for sharing their room with us for the Welcome Pizza Party.

We stayed at a brand new Embassy Suites in West Valley City – this was a very modern, beautiful hotel with spacious sleeping rooms to accommodate 2 persons per room.  Also at the Embassy was a large group of 140 from the 70+ Ski Club who came from all over the United States to ski for a week.  It was a hoot talking to some of them during the morning and evening gatherings and finding out about their skiing experiences and how active they are - from riding Harleys to cycling cross country (sounds like many of our ULLRs).  This just shows you that staying active keeps you healthy and young at heart!

For the second year in a row we had a ski boot disintegrate while walking, resulting in the purchase of new boots buy Gail W at Alta (she decided to add new skis to that purchase).  Another weird occurrence was Nancy K being attacked by a huge icicle while riding a chair lift.  Good thing she was wearing a helmet, however, she did receive a cut on her ungloved hand.

Joe and I thank all the ULLRs who participated for being prompt, flexible and helpful during the week.  This makes a very enjoyable ski vacation for trip chairs!
