Ice Castles entrance - Looks cold in there!
What shapes do you see: an elephant, a sheep head, ???
Four
ULLRs went to see the Ice Castles exhibit at the Mall of America on
January 31 when the outdoor temperature was 5 below with a windchill of
25 below and a 17 mph wind. You can decide if these four ULLRs
are the bravest or most foolish of our members!
We were
definitely the most determined members to see this exhibit no matter
what the weather was and take some photos to prove we were there.
Taking the photos was definitely challenging as, of course, we had to
take off our mittens and expose our hands to the elements. A
metal camera casing at 25 below feels veeeery cold.
In spite of
the weather, the Ice Castles exhibit was beautifully lit with white
and colored lights. We all agreed it reminded us of the icy house
scenes from “Dr. Zhivago.” Although the Twin Cities has had some
very warm days, we learned Ice Castles has sprinklers to make more ice
when the temperatures are cold enough to do so.
When we
left the exhibit, we went over to Twin City Grill for hot beverages and
dinner. Hot tea and coffee helped warm us, and wrapping our hands
around hot mugs helped thaw our frozen fingers.
Other ULLR
members should be proud of us though. We dressed for the outdoor
elements as best we could, and we liked the exhibit and the beautiful
dark starry Minnesota sky.
