Ten
ULLRs were among the 98 attendees at the MSC 2012 Winter
Carnival. We had orange juice and bagels on the bus ride up, and
upon arrival on the early (7 am) bus, some of us skied Friday afternoon
and four of the ULLR gals visited with Anne Schelde, a former ULLR
member who lives nearby. The snow
conditions were not very good; they were the worst we have experienced
in the 6 years in a row that the MSC has been going to
Indianhead. Although Indianhead had received 20 inches of Lake
Effect snow by November 27th, only two runs were open due to a
subsequent heavy rain and temperatures in the 50’s. The snow on
those two runs was OK, but it got a little boring skiing the same two
runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was enjoyable meeting members of other clubs, and dancing/listening to a good band in Dudley’s bar. Additional
socializing took place during après ski, Friday’s dinner, our ULLR
Schnapps tasting, Saturday’s banquet, and the wine on the hill party
hosted by the ULLR club. Due to the shortage of snow, the NASTAR
and turtle races weren’t held, nor was there any cross-country skiing. On
our bus ride back to Minneapolis, we saw several cars that had slid off
the road. Although the road conditions were marginal, our two bus
drivers did a great job of getting us back safely. A considerable
amount of time was spent digging out our cars when we arrived back at
the Honeywell lot; we could have used that snow at Indianhead. The
MSC is planning to go to Lutsen for next season’s Winter Carnival; we
have discussed the fact that the cost will most likely be higher.
To have a better chance of more snow, we may go later than the second
weekend in December. |
