Sommerfest - Summer in Vienna at the Ted Mann Concert Hall
With construction going on at Orchestra Hall, ULLR’s moved to the Ted Mann Concert Hall on the University’s West Campus for this year’s Sommerfest concert. Construction followed us to the Ted Mann Hall, as many roads on the campus were closed, which added to the “fun” of finding the Hall. However, every one of the 32 ULLR music lovers found their way with no problems.
It was one of those scorching days we had all during July - 95 degrees that night of July 14th. The Ted Mann Hall shares a terrace with Ferguson Hall and the two buildings provided much welcomed shade for our pre-concert activities. Brats, hot dogs, beer and wine were enjoyed by our group as we listened - and danced! - to the Jolly Huntsman band. Manfred was the most popular dancer of our group as he was the ULLR most proficient with the dance steps required for the waltz and polka tunes played!
The music of the concert featuring the Strauss brothers, Johann Jr., Josef, and Eduard, was wonderful. Of course, Johann Jr. is renowned as the “Waltz King” and we loved listening to the many pieces from his repertoire. His famous Emperors’ Waltz finished off a glorious evening. A great time was had by all!
