GRANITE PEAK

18 fun loving people drove to Wausau, WI on Sunday, January 22nd.  Most arrived at the Courtyard by Marriott in time to enjoy the hot tub and a wine and cheese party.  Bruce W and Pat N toured the countryside on the way to Wausau and turned a 3 hour drive into an afternoon adventure. 

We awoke Monday to 4 inches of wet snow.  The cross country skiers had a great time breaking trail, but many of the downhill skiers had burning thighs by noon.  Someone took Nancy S’s skis by mistake so she spent the afternoon looking out the window hoping for their return.  She did get them back eventually. 

Tuesday morning half the group went cross country and snowshoeing and the other half went back to conquer the runs at Granite Peak again.  They were all perfectly groomed and we managed to ski fast and hard.  Everyone agrees that Granite Peak is a perfect mid week destination for our club with no lift lines and plenty of runs to play on.  Plus Nine Mile Forest is a paradise for cross country and snowshoe enthusiasts too.
