Holiday Ball, Dec. 2, 2011

Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho, Ma May Me Mo!  Just warming up for the winter season, and now that the Holiday Ball is over, winter may begin.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Holiday Ball as much as I did.  Karin Cole and Karin Shullian, fairly new members in the club, volunteered and did a marvelous job on the table decorations and gift baskets.  The lovely table center pieces started with a purchase from the Boy Scouts, and the Karins dressed them up for the party.  In addition to our already successful Toys for Tots collections, we may have started another worthwhile tradition with the Boy Scouts.  Two lucky individuals won the elaborate gift baskets filled with “all German” delicacies.

Diane may have a new career as a professional reservation, name tag and place card expert.  This is her third year of getting it right for each of the 97 guests.  Did you wonder how the waiter knew to serve you walleye or chicken?

Did you notice that we had an extra fifteen minutes of happy hour?  That was a negotiated deal because they needed to serve our dinners 15 minutes later.

How about the service this year!  The staff managed to get the Apple Pecan Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Champagne Sauce and the Parmesan Encrusted Walleyes out to each table in record time, perfectly hot and delicious.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the Mini-Dessert Trays also.

Did you wonder how we managed to get a four-piece band for the price of three?  The leader, Larry Larson, slipped on the ice just before he came to the Ball, called in another base guitar player and then discovered that what he thought was a broken finger was only dislocated, and he could still play.  The Changing Times Band is always inspired by ULLRs who still know how to dance the night away in style.

The price of admission was only $35.00 this year, subsidy approved by the ULLR Board.
