| April 5th was a beautiful sunny day in the Twin Cites with temperatures around 55 degrees. It was a
perfect day to be outside, but 36 ULLRs and 6 guests chose to spend the day inside touring the King
Tut Exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
It was a fabulous day! When we got to the Museum, we were delighted to learn that because Nancy
Sand made early arrangements for our tour, we were given free audio vouchers.
First on our agenda was coffee and gigantic bakery treats in the restaurant. Most of our group "ate
the whole thing" and wondered how they would have have room to eat lunch in another hour.
The "Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs" film at the Omnitheatre was excellent. We learned history of
the age of the pharaohs, how mummies were prepared and later discovered, and the importance of how
DNA testing on mummies might help us with today's
medical issues.
Considering the size of our earlier bakery treats, most of us did find it possible to enjoy lunch.
Following that we entered the King Tut Exhibit. The Exhibit artifacts were fascinating and very
well displayed. Graphics, videos, and audio helped us understand and learn about the objects and
history of that period of time.
When we exited the Exhibit, many of us went to see the Museum's mummy where Gary Gray, a Museum
volunteer, further explained the mummification process.
At the end of our day, we all agreed that Gary Gray's discussion in March was excellent preparation
for visiting this Exhibit. Thanks again, Gary!
