| Bienvenue - Welcome to Nova Scotia
WOW! What a scenic trip for 24 ULLRs. Eight days traveling on a beautiful motor coach, rotating seats, wondering if it’s the driver’s side or door side off first, meeting new friends from around the United States (South Korea), and staying in 5 different hotels.
On our way to Cheticamp we visited the First Nations’ Heritage Center. Lunch followed in Judique at the Celtic Music Center, where Jerry tried his hand at the fiddle and Barb and Karen danced a jig. A two night’s stay included a tour of the “Hooker Museum”, Mask Museum, a harbor cruise with Tom, Joe, Karen, and Barb piloting the Love Boat, and stuffing ourselves with lobster.
Driving through the breath-taking Cabot Trail, hiking the bogs, visiting the Whale Museum, stopping for scenic pictures, eating ice cream at the Celtic Lodge, and viewing the lighthouse at Neil’s Harbor, ended with a two night’s stay in Baddeck. Jan and new friend Debra danced during a Ceilidh shindig (fiddle concert). We went back in time to the Fortress of Louisbourg, jewel of the Canadian Park Service.
We loaded the motor coach on a ferry for a 75-minute ride to the picturesque Prince Edward Island, drove through the beautiful countryside to the red sand beaches, and splashed around in the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. During an evening dinner at a nearby restaurant, a couple of young fiddlers taught us to play the “spoons”. Another highlight was the Anne of Green Gables’ House in Cavendish, where our own “Joan” of Green Gables was found sitting in the buggy.
Leaving PEI we rode over the eight mile Confederation Bridge to the amazing Flowerpot Rocks at Hopewell Cape. Because the astounding 50 foot tide was at low tide, we walked on the muddy ocean floor. President Bruce got the prize for the muddiest feet. This was certainly one of the trip highlights.
The end of the trip found us back at the Halifax Harbor Front. ULLRs were seen the next day climbing the rugged shoreline surrounding the world famous Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse. 24 ULLRs, 10 days, 1,305 miles, 3 provinces, 10 museums, 25 lighthouses, 1 ocean, 3 bays, 4 national parks, endless churches, and countless memories add up to a fabulous trip! Thanks to all of you.
