2010 ULLR Golf Classic held at

Applewood Hills Golf Course

Despite threatening weather; the 2010 ULLR Golf Tournament was played at Applewood Hills on Tuesday, June 15th.  The golfing gods were with the ULLRs on this day.  We were told that it rained all around us as we stayed dry and enjoyed sunshine, a fun day of scramble golf and partying in the clubhouse.  After a very tasty Barbecue with all the trimmings; an awards session took place.

Captain Pam Anderson’s team won the $50 1st place money and an additional $72 in skin money.  Pam got help from teammates Joan Kruse, Harry Olson, and Tom Rein as they shot a 3 under par 59.  Just one stroke back was Captain Jann Shaffer’s team of Kay Joyce, Charlie Peterson, and Dean Shawbold; alongside Captain Tom Larkin’s team consisting of Jan Cady, Peggy Blahoski, and Joe Fischenich.  Captain Tom won the $40 second place prize money for his team in a putt-off.  Jann Shaffer’s team also won a $36 skin and collected the $30 prize for coming in 3rd.  Captain Carol Schwebach’s team won $20 for coming in 4th with an even par 62.  Other members of that team included; Carol Burgess, Ray Hartmann, and Gus Bjorklund.

A skin goes to the team having the lowest score on any given hole.  Each of the nine teams put $20 in the pot totaling $180 in skins money.  There were five skins worth $36 each.  Besides the skins already mentioned; Captain Ken Ernst’s team including Joyce & John Rooney & Julie Ernst won a skin on the difficult hole #10.  The other skin went to Captain Jim Habeck’s team on hole #12.  Jim’s teammates were Barb Kolbe, John Egan, and Judy Miller.

Besides the team prizes; several individual awards were given.  Sylvia Scott won $20 for the longest drive for women on hole #17 and won another $15 for being closest to the pin for the gals on hole #5.  Jan Cady won $15 for being closest to the pin on hole #12.  Larry Miller collected $15 for being closest to the pin on #13 and John Egan won the same on hole #4.  Joyce Lahr won a $25 gift certificate from Joe’s Sporting Goods for having the longest drive for women on hole #8 and Gus Bjorklund won the same for having the longest drive on #9.  Joe Fischenich got the longest drive on hole #11 and collected $20.  A large bottle of wine was won by Peggy Blahoski for making the longest putt on the final hole.

Door prizes were won by several people thanks to neat clothing donations by Charlie Peterson of CP Products and Dian Parnell and several nice tote bags from the Pinehurst Bank.  Carol Schwebach provided a golf glove for a lucky gal & guy.

We also want to thank Joe’s Sporting Goods for two $25 gift certificates.  Thank you to Bill Kansas and Jan Swanberg for being our starters, and to Jan Swanberg for replacing Shari Kopeski on team #9.

Carol Schwebach & Gus Bjorklund had a lot of fun putting this event together and we hope the participants also had fun.
