On Monday, February 15, 12 ULLRs gathered at the Superior National Forest
Lakehomes on Lake Isabella for 4 days and 3 nights of winter fun. The weather had
changed from chilly, windy and snowy on Sunday to near perfect.
Tuesday, 3 people - Patti F, John S, and Jim H - went to Lutsen to
downhill. 8 skiers - Barb K, Ron M, Joyce B, Jan S, Judy B, Jim
S, Ron F, and Vickie L - hit the fabulous cross country ski trails
while Ginny S held down the fort. In the afternoon, following a
lunch of Wild Rice soup and sandwiches, 3 hardy ULLRs went out again
to ski while Ron M and Joyce snowshoed.
On Wednesday 10 people xc-skied including Patti and John who had not been on skinny skis for
decades! We continued until the sun made the trails a little
sticky.
Evenings were spent enjoying "team" prepared gourmet quality
meals of baked spaghetti, baked chicken with dressing, and grilled
salmon. We got in alot of practice playing Mexican Train Dominoes and
Pictionary, completing a 500 piece jigsaw, reading, and checking the
internet for Olympics results. Our 1st evening's dinner was enhanced
by live accordian music provided by Ron M. During the day we were
entertained during our down times by the wildlife right outside our
window... a red squirrel, Gray Jays, Blue Jays, Goldfinches,
Chickadees Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Pine Grosbeaks (10 at one time),
and a doe who stuck her head over the deck railing for many minutes.
Thanks to Joyce for bringing some bird food. A great time was had by
all and we were sorry to see it end. |
