| What a great weekend for 28 ULLRs to bike the picturesque Root River Bike Trail and enjoy charming Lanesboro. We all enjoyed being together for biking, dining, socializing, touring, shopping, wine tasting and having lots of fun. The weather was cool - just right for biking, although nippy for outdoor breakfasts (down in the low forties one morning).
Friday evening’s happy hour (or actually three hours!) was cut “short” by a passing rain cloud! “Iowa Jan” Hotvedt made a very welcome surprise visit. Thank you Sunny Zenk for the summer sausage and cheeses, and rhubarb wine from the Lanesboro Winery. Saturday evening’s happy hour moved on to Old Village Hall for excellent dinners, followed by the play “The Odd Couple” at the Commonweal Theatre. There was not an empty seat in the house for this talented, funny version of the popular Neil Simon play. Karen Hemmingson now knows what “biking up to Fountain” really means! Ray Wilkinson gets the prize for the most miles biked, but has to “go to a jewelry store” with Ginny, because of her concern when he didn’t get back until 7 pm on Friday! Pies at Aroma Pie Shop in Whalen are still the best! Sharon Marini and Joan Roe were complimented for providing hot breakfast casseroles they had made at home (challenging to heat up in small microwaves!), fruit, and juices, plus muffins and coffee, compliments of Green Gables Inn. Thank you to helpers Marty Wilkes, Mary Vande Hei, and Barb and Marv Miller. Another great weekend with ULLR Friends! |
