2009 Ullr Golf Classic

     Wednesday, June 17th proved to be an ideal day for some good golf at Applewood Hills.  Jan Cady's team shot a 5 under 57 in this scramble format to capture the first place money.  Roger Hennessey, Pam Anderson, and Ron Dittmer were the other members of the four person winning team.  Barb Kolbe's team consisting of Jim Habeck, Joella Wilson, and John Egan was only one stroke back.  Another one stroke back was Joe Fischenich's third place team including Barb Carpenter, Dan Rymer, and Sylvia Scott.  A putt-off was required to settle the 4th and 5th place finishers.  John Rooney from Joyce Rooney's team nosed out Tom Rein from Dean Shawbold's team.  Kathe and Frank Magadance were the other two members of Rooney's 4th place team and Shari Kopeski and Sandra Shearer were the other participants on Shawbold's 5th place team.

     Among the individual prizes were two double winners.  Ron Dittmer won the longest drive on both nines for men.  Joella Wilson won a longest drive and a closest to the pin prize for women.  The other long drive winner for women was Pam Anderson, and Shari Kopeski was the other closest to the pin winner for women.  Roger Hennessey and Joe Fischenich won the closest to the pin prizes for men.

     The $240 Skins Game resulted in seven skins. The highlight was an eagle on hole number 8.  Joe Fishenich drove the par 4 hole and Dan Rymer made the putt.  Joe's team also won a second skin on hole number 5.  Barb Kolbe's team also won two skins on holes 15 and 17.  Jan Cady's and Joyce Rooney's teams each won one skin.  Cady's was on hole number 3, and Rooney's was on hole number 10.  The 7th skin was won by Larry Miller's team with a neat two on hole number 9.  Karen Holmquist, Ed Nightengale, and Paula Meserve were the other members of Larry's team.

    We would like to give special thank you to Joe's Sporting Goods for providing two $25 gift certificates for individual prizes, and another thank you to Pierce Skate & Ski for donating a $52.50 ski tune-up as a door prize won by Roger Chlebecek.  Charlie Peterson's CP Products company contributed two wonderful clothing items.  Ron Dittmer won a golf warm-up top and Judy Bergan won a hooded golf sweatshirt.  Both items had Ullr Golf imprinted on them.  Thank you, Charlie.  John Scanlon, manager of the Applewood Hills golf course, gave four green fees to the team with the highest score. A final thank you goes to George Graham for providing golf balls for each participant.

     Twelve teams or 48 golfers participated in the event which included a barbeque and awards ceremony following the golf.  Carol Schwebach and Gus Bjorklund had fun organizing the event and we hope the participants also had fun.
