| Thirty ULLRs traveled to Lanesboro the weekend of August 22-24, 2008. Friday
was a traveling day and some came early to bike and golf. Friday evening
started with wine and cheese, followed by dinner at several locations. After
dinner, 16 of us enjoyed seeing the Man of La Mancha at the Commonweal Theatre.
Saturday morning started with OJ, muffins and lots of coffee. The group then
split with golfers and bikers each going their own directions. The golfers with
tee times at the Rivers' Bend at the Old Barn Resort in Preston. It is a
18-hole course with many challenges....
The bikers had a choice of biking to Whalan (4.6 mi), Peterson (13.5), Rushford
(18.3), Harmony (22.5) and Houston (31.1). This mileage is one way - plus the
motel was an additional mile from the trail. Therefore, they biked anywhere
from 11 miles round trip to Whalan or 64 miles round trip to Houston as Cheryl
Ostlund and John Egan' did. Of course, stopping in Whalan for the pie and
ice cream is a must. We also had some bikers that went the other direction to
Preston (10.2) or split off to Fountain (11.2), for a total of 22 or 24 miles.
Saturday evening also started with wine and cheese, followed by everyone going
to dinner at the Old Village Hall Restaurant. Needless to say the 30 of us took
over the whole upper restaurant. After dinner the rest of the group enjoyed
seeing Harvey at the Commonweal Theatre. Those who had gone to the play the
night before walked around town, had ice cream for dessert, and some sat out in
the Green Gables gazebo enjoying the evening and lively conversation on many
subjects....
Sunday morning started with the leftovers of OJ, muffins, cheese, grapes and
coffee or breakfast at the Chat N' Chew just down the hill from the Green
Gables. After breakfast the group split between golfing, biking or just
returning home. The weather was GREAT and a GOOD time was had by all.
