Thirty three Ullrs had a good trip to Vail. The weather in Vail was a little like Minnesota weather. Daytime temperatures were in the 10’s and 20’s. One night it got down to -15. Hand warmers and toe warmers were needed some mornings. Vail and all the west has been getting a lot of snow this year. Real good base. We had fresh snow 4 mornings. On Friday our last day we had 7 inches in the morning and 2 more during the day. A group of us went up into the trees and found about a foot and a half of fresh power. Some of us on different days went over to Beaver Creek for a different experience. Everyone had a good time. No major injuries. A couple of skiers got minor bruises from those snow snakes.
Sunday night we started out with a welcoming Pizza party. As a group we went to a bar called Garfinkels. We were able to order off the menu. Finding a place in Vail to take a group and at a reasonable time is hard. Friday night was the usual leftovers party. You should ask Brian Johnson why it takes over 1 hour to boil water for spaghetti.
We lucked out on our bus trips too. I-70 has been shut down a lot this winter. Almost every night it was shut down for trucks for 2 or 3 hours or more because snow and ice pack. Our bus driver said that Friday was a real bad travel day. It had taken him a long time to get from Denver to Summit county.
