Eighteen Ullrs carpooled to Spirit Mountain and Jay Cooke State Park early
Friday, January 4th. By 10 am, eleven members began downhill skiing at Spirit
Mountain, five members were led by Bill Lyon on an off-trail snowshoeing
expedition at Jay Cooke State Park, and two members spent both days gambling and
winning a modest sum of money at the Black Bear Casino where the group was
staying. Friday evening, the group got together in Barb and Karen's room for
refreshments, and those that were still hungry ate later at the Casino's buffet
dinner. Saturday four of Friday's downhill skiers switched and joined the other
five snowshoers' at Banning State Park, having dinner at the Banning restaurant
afterward. The snow conditions were very good and the temperature was mild for
a trip in January. It was a nice option having only one of the two days on a
weekend.
