By Jerry Schuster, Ullr trip leader
Sixteen Ullrs’ rode the early (7 am) bus to Indianhead, which was the first of six buses spaced throughout the day. Arriving during daylight hours was a welcome change for an Upper Midwest ski trip. We were part of 275 participants from member clubs of the Midwest Sport/Ski Council attending the Dec 7 – 9, 2007 MSC Winter Carnival. Our 57 passenger bus was packed with 56 passengers, and coffee, orange juice, and rolls in the 57th seat. A "people bingo" game furnished by trip co-chair Jodie Dulac was played on the way up to introduce members of different clubs to each other. Before departure, all luggage was tagged and loaded exclusively by Ullr club members, my thanks to all who helped make the loading run smoothly. A survey was handed out on the return trip, and the majority of all participants chose Indianhead for next year’s Winter Carnival.
Seven of us skied for 3½ hours on Friday afternoon, and we had the runs almost all to ourselves.
We participated in the beer tasting Friday afternoon at Dudley’s Saloon, and had a fun time comparing opinions of each beer; we also skied in the poker run and human slalom on Saturday.
Many good quality prizes were awarded in the drawing held after the banquet dinner on Saturday evening. It was fun meeting members of other clubs, and dancing/listening to a good band at Dudley’s.
The weekend was cold, and picture taking was at a minimum; however, we dressed for the weather and took morning and afternoon breaks to warm up.
The snow conditions were very good, but that early in the season not all the runs were open. There were many positive comments about this trip, we all enjoyed it, and it will be even better the second year (weather providing).
