Scoring conditions were great at the Applewood Hills Golf Course for the 2007 Ullr Golf Classic on June 13th. Forty-eight golfers including twelve four person teams participated in the Scramble event. The competition also included several individual components.

Bill Lyon's team consisting of Jan Hoffman, Pam Anderson, and Gus Bjorklund along with Bill scored a six under 56 for the $60 first place prize. Their success is attributed to a well balanced effort with all four players making long putts and good tee shots. The $48 second place money went to Ken Johnson's team. Ken, Joyce Krake, Wally Krake and Vicky Johnson, shot a solid two under 60. Judy Bergan's team with Ron Dittmer, Sandra Shearer, and Dean Shawbold won the $40 third place with an even par 62.

Three teams tied for 4th place. A putt-off resulted in Dave Shave's team including Kay Joyce, George Graham, and Jan Shaffer taking the $32 4th place money with John Egan, Barb Kolbe, Jim Habeck, and Dian Parnell winning the $24 fifth place. Jan Cady’s team including Charlie Peterson, Carol Schwebach, and Vern Brown took last place in the tournament. They were each awarded a sleeve of balls, so they could begin to practice up for the next year.

The $20 Gift Certificate at Joe's Sporting Goods went to Colleen Barden for the longest drive on hole #8 and Dan Rymer for the longest drive on #6. The $20 longest drive prizes on the back nine was won by Peggy Blahhoski on # 17 and Gus Bjorklund on hole #11. $20 prizes were also won by Joella Wilson by getting closest to the pin on # 5, Wally Krake on hole # 4, Judy Bergan on number #12, and Larry Miller was closest to the pin and hole #13. John Egan won a litter of wine for making the longest putt on our final hole which was #9.

A giant skin game with each golfer throwing in $5 resulted in only two skins despite the fact that several teams got birdies. Most of the birdies were washed out with two or more teams getting birdies on the same hole. Ken Johnson's team got the only birdie on Hole # 11 winning half the money or $120. The other skin went to Joyce Rooney's team including Lyle Skandel, Joanne Archard, and John Rooney for getting the only birdie on hole #15.

We all enjoyed some libation, a great buffet, and a fun prize presentation including several door prizes. A $50 ski tune-up donated by the Pierce Skate & Ski was the top door prize along with five Champion Golf Shirts donated by Ullr member Charlie Peterson from his CP Products Company. Several golf items were donated by Skip Skinner through Jean Berry. We also would like to thank Ed Nightengale for the $30 that we used toward additional prizes.

Carol Schwebach & Gus Bjorklund enjoyed putting the event together and hope all the participants also enjoyed the event.
