Saturday, April 28th was a beautiful spring evening as 119 ULLRs gathered at Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington. Following a delicious dinner, our MC Diane Salmela introduced Brian Johnson and the ski team who received medals for a successful racing season. The OLE Awards were then presented to the following 7 recipients: Carol Burgess, Sally Chevalier, Laurie Coursolle, Margo Dinneen, Bill Lyon, Joan Roe, and Jerry Schuster. ULLR Of The Year was given by last year’s recipient Cheryl Ostlund to the team of John Egan and Carolyn Buswell.
Two western ski trips and one warm weather trip were announced. The ski trips are both at areas in Colorado, Vail and Copper Mountain. Costa Rica is the warm weather trip.
Carol Burgess, outgoing President, presented gifts and thanks to the outgoing Board and then the new ULLR Board was introduced. They are Marty Wilkes, President; Joan Roe, Vice President; Mary Ellen Haggerty, Ski Program VP; Charlie Brown, Treasurer; Patty Fitzgerald, Membership VP; Ray Hartmann, Summer Program VP; Mary Ellen Goriesky, Secretary, and Carol Burgess, Past President Advisor.
As several raffle items were being given out, a special guest arrived from Scandihoovia, MN. Lena, Ole’s wife, shared several stories about life up north with Ole, Sven and friends. VERY FUNNY!! The evening continued with dancing to the terrific music of the American Flyer Band. Co-Chairs Colleen Barden and Vicki Johnson felt the Banquet was a great success, and have booked the same location for next spring. |
