Sommerfest 2005
This summer has been a revisit of days gone past---hot, hot, hot.
And so it was on August 2nd as 26 Ullr's descended on Orchestra
Hall for a Sommerfest concert. The temperature was in the 90's but
it didn't dampen any of our spirits. We were greeted by gold
and blue balloons as we met at our reserved tables on the Plaza in
front of Orchestra Hall to imbibe in food and drink. Everyone
was anxious to hear the soloist, Davis Gaines, as Patty Fitzgerald
and John Stiefel had heard him before and told us how wonderful
he was. Were they right! Gaines, listed as a baritone, had a
tremendous range and sang every song of hits from Hollywood to
Broadway to perfection. Our seats were excellent---rows 7, 8, and
9---so we could see Gaines and the Minnesota Orchestra perfectly while we listened to the wonderful music.
After the concert, about half of the group gathered at Brit's right
across Nicollet Mall for "after concert" drinks and desserts. We all agreed that the evening had been great---good food, great
camaraderie, and an outstanding concert.
