Heat in the 90's didn't much bother 42 ULLRs who dined on gourmet Tuscan food in Mary Ellen Haggerty & Ali Kalish's air-conditioned country home on Saturday, July 16. Chef Eberhard Werthmann, though, warmed up with sometimes 2 oven doors open or flipping Rici Bici in one huge pan, sauteed vegetables in another in Mary Ellen's huge kitchen. Once again, Eberhard had created a sumptuous feast with the help of Gus Bjorklund, shopping, and preparing the authentic menu of Nothern Italian delicacies.
Porcelain pitchers filled with daisies and wooken spoons made interesting and beautiful centerpieces. Mary Ellen had painted them with fruit and vegetables plus writing on some of the dinner recipes before firing them in her new workshop. She now has a place for her classes. All of the pitchers on the tables were sold with a portion of the funds contributed by Mary Ellen to ULLR Foundation.
Ted Mellby and Ali used their trucks for chairs & tables; Ed Nightengale, Kent Eggleston, Jeff Fischer, Don & Kay Sommers, Betts Carter, Lorri Christiansen, and Mary Ellen moved furniture and set up tables on Friday. Saturday Nancy Harman, Barb Kemmer, Sigrid Ruhland-Mellby, Bobbi Ciesinski, Lorri, and Kay brought Tuscan appetizers and worked with Mike & Mimi Moss and the other Friday helpers.
Bill Kansas provided dinner music from the loft. Menus and Place names were done by Jan Muphy, and Nancy Kastner lent some table items. Jeff Fischer obtained the Tuscan wine from Byerlys.
Thanks to Mary Ellen, Ali, Gus, Eberhard, all of the helpers, and the ULLRS who participated as diners, this fund-raiser was another huge success!
