34 Ullrs get ready to ride the trails of Woodbury, 10 & 20 mile routes |
After Larry M's great tire-changing tutorial, Jimmie Steffens from the Woodbury Penn Cycle explains the latest in biking technologies in a comic monologue |
The Ullr Biking Kickoff May 10 was a success. The Ullr god of snow even managed to hold off the rain until well after the event! We had 34 attendees- either taking the Sunday Drivers Ride led by Elizabeth Houle-Nelson or the Power Peddlers Ride led by Dennis. In addition to providing our own entertainment (yes, I mean the riding and the conversation), we were well served by Larry Miller (Changing a flat tire), Jim Black (Blackbird Designs, http://www.blackbirdbikes.com) and Jimmie Steffens (Penn Cycle, Woodbury). Larry made it look so easy to change a flat, and it is easy if you follow his simple directions. Jim Black (thanks to Jeff Fischer for setting this up) demonstrated the latest in battery-powered bike technology. Look into this style of riding if you think you need help negotiating those hills.
The highlight of the afternoon was Jimmie's entertaining (a funny man) and informative talk about the latest in helmets, bikes, indoor training opportunities, and key riding tips. For those of you who missed the ride, see the spread of Trek, Giant and other brand name bikes available from Penn Cycle on http://www.penncycle.com, and talk to someone who was there.
All in all, a great day and a fitting kickoff for yet another biking season. Thanks to all who participated!
