Text Box: CHRISTMAS GALA

Assumption parish will celebrate our Annual Christmas Gala/Silent Auction on Saturday, December 6th. This is a major fundraiser for our parish. Due to the fact that we are in the midst of a Capital Centenary Campaign, the tickets for the Gala are $25 per person. Please read the inserts in this weeks bulletin regarding the Silent Auction. Tickets for the Gala will also be on sale next weekend at all the Masses. Thank you!

VOCATIONS COMMITTEE

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has asked all the parishes to begin a Vocations Committee. The purpose of this Committee is to meet periodically to discuss prayer campaigns, information dissemination and other ways that we can support the members of our parish who may be called, by God, for married life, the priesthood, the religious life or to serve in another way. If you would like to be a part of this Committee please contact Marianne Bellucci at 718-855-5979.
Text Box: POT LUCK SUPPER

Join in the fun on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 5:30 P.M. for Assumption’s annual Pot Luck Supper. This is not a fundraiser but a great chance for parishioners to get to know each other better and to share delicious family favorites with friends old and new. If you can bring an appetizer, entrée, side dish, salad, or dessert, please contact Reena Raggi Denton at 718-643-9816 OR reena_raggi@ca2.uscourts.gov before Thursday, October 29. If you cannot bring something this year, come anyway! There is always plenty, and the supper is definitely a “more the merrier” celebration.

WORLD PRIEST DAY

This weekend we celebrate World Priest Day. It is a celebration and affirmation of the priests who commit their lives to the Lord and the Church via the Sacrament of Holy Orders. It is an opportunity for Catholics to thank and support their priests.

Dear Friends:
Next weekend is very special in the Catholic Church. On Saturday, November 1st we celebrate the Feast of All the Saints. There will be a Mass at 8:00 A.M. On Sunday, November 2nd, in place of celebrating the Ordinary Sunday of the Year we will Commemorate All Souls Day. This is an opportunity to remember all our loved one who have gone before us. We celebrate this Day not only to remember our family and friends who have died, but, also to look at the fact that we too will one day share in the glory of God. The Scriptures are filled with passages that remind us of this fact. We may not always consider this. However, Jesus continually preached about the Kingdom of God and gave us many avenues to use in traveling to the Kingdom. As a parish community we will remember all our loved ones at each of our Masses. As we do so, I ask all of us to think of the many gifts and blessings our relatives and friends left us in their presence among us. Remember all the good they did. Remember all the wonderful moments they celebrated with us. Above all, pray that through their intercession, the Lord will hear and answer our prayers. What joy it is in knowing we have so many friends in heaven!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Michael A. Carrano
